Mama now has basal cell skin cancer....surgery Aug. 5...more details in the replies below. Your prayers mean so much folks!

I've had a really trying few weeks since my last blog post. It all started with my mom complaining of stomach problems after our Father's Day cookout...two days later I had the same thing...so we figure it was something we ate...a bug..whatever.......well a week later mama was complaining again and called me to her home late in the evening..I tried and tried to get her to go to the Dr...no doing...there was even blood all in her toilet.....well long story short we ended up in the emergency room 2 days later and after 2 days in the hospital her white blood count hit 50,000!!!! It had almost tripled in 2 days. The Dr was baffled as to what was going on...he called us back to the ICU at midnight..he was going in and doing exploratory surgery not knowing what he might find....he told one of my sister's and I.....If I go in and find a rotten gall bladder I can fix that if I go in and find dead bowel all I can do is sew her back up and make her comfortable....talk about SCARY!!! My sister was like...What does that mean??? He said that means it's terminal. Oh my goodness did my heart feel like it was racing out of my chest..we got on our cell phones and called our siblings...it's 7 of us...all but one (she lives out of state) rushed to the hospital..we sat there for 3 hours not knowing what the verdict was during which my Dad was saying he didn't think he could do this again...he lost his mom at the same hospital at a young age.....I was doing a lot of praying and I even remembered  the line in the movie Facing the Giants...something to the effect...If what I pray isn't what I get then I'll still praise and love you Lord...THAT was REALLY hard for me to "say"....it felt like I was letting my mom down....but then there was this great peace that came over me.....a peace that passes understanding.........then a while later the surgeon came in grinning ear to ear...she had a VERY rotten gb!!! He said she gave him some more gray hair and was very hard to figure out! Praise the Lord I still have my mom and I'm so happy to report she's recovering nicely. She also had a biopsy on her arm last week we go tomorrow to find out about that....well would you believe we get mama out of the hospital and then Daddy goes in!!! Unreal! I take him to the dr. and she says get him to the ER NOW you might lose him! So I rush him down the road ..he has congestive heart failure....severe copd....pneumonia in one of his lungs. Please pray he'll be strong and NOT smoke another blasted cigarette!! If you're reading this and you're a smoker...PLEASE do yourself and those around you a big favor and throw them away!!!! Most of his health problems are due to cigarette smoking! He's on med after med for it now...so sad!! I have them both out of the hospital now and Daddy is facing heart surgery very soon. So please keep the prayer coming our way!

I'm so glad I have the Lord to lean to in times like this especially...I don't know how I could have gotten through all this without Him.  Leaning on those everlasting arms!!!

Thank you, Jesus, for being my Rock!

Another update- no heart surgery for Dad...he's in atrial fibrulation now and the Dr. said it wouldn't do him much good. He did say his heart sounded good and his valves looked good. His worse problem is his lung damage from smoking and working in sawdust his whole life. He's improving and breathing better and has lost almost 20 pounds of fluid since he was hospitalized!!! Still smoke free as far as I know!

Hang in there Carla. I think we all need some good news in our lives and to get out from under this dark cloud. Hang in there hun!

I tell ya' when it rains it truly does pour at times. The Dr. told us the same thing....if she had to have it basal cell was the best one to have. However, mama's has been on her upper arm for probably 5 plus years and is really big and nasty! We have fussed and fussed at her to get it checked, but she would hide it from us and wear longer sleeves so we couldn't see it...grrrrrr!! They're going to have to make a pretty big and quite deep cut to get it all and then take skin from her back to go over it.
I can't believe the "luck" you're having lately, girl!!!!! I think of you soo much! So sorry to hear about your vehicle..I know how tickled you were when you first got it! PUNKS!!!!! Just think of what we have to look forward to one day....streets of gold in the land of milk and honey!!!! When He closes a door He always opens a window!

Sabrina- you're a blessing, chic!

Hang in there Carla. Bill was diagnosed with Basal Cell in May(the same day his mom died, so double whammy) and he has had two removed including one that was melanoma and needs three more done. I will pray that your mom comes through it ok and of all the skin cancers to get, Basal Cell is the best one if you have to get it. If that makes sense. I had been on Bill's heiney for over a year over the spot on his chest and finally when he went it it turned out to be melanoma. Of course, while he was sitting in the doctors office he got the call that his mom was getting last rites in MI. She died on the 7th of May. The day before what would have been my moms' birthday and just three days before Mothers Day and of course she was in MI and we were in CA so there was not even time to get out there to say good-bye. He got hit by a whammy that day. Oh yeah, and last night all three of our cars were broken into and they burned cigarette holes in the seat of my brnad new 2009 Santa Fe. And you know how I feel about smokers! ARGH! I think we all need some good news in our lives and to get out from under this dark cloud. Hang in there hun!

Oh my goodness, Carla! When it rains, it pours! I will definitely keep your family in my prayers. My Uncle just had surgery yesterday and they found two blockages. One of them quite severe. They said surgery went well, but I know he has some challenges ahead with trying to quit the cigarettes. He has been an avid smoker for years. My Mom has lost 2 of her sisters because of smoking! I have seen first hand what it can do and it's NOT pretty. I hope your Dad quits. I hope my husband quits, too.
I know you know this, but no matter what happens in our lives, God will always see us through. I'm so glad I have faith and I believe in God with all of my heart. smile

Mercy, Mercy...my grandmother use to say. It's very comforting to learn that they are both at home and recouperating. I know your heart was heavy with fear and worry. The Lord is good and I'm glad your prayers were answered. I've never been a fan of "smoke" and/or "smokers". I use to complain to my mother all the time about that nasty habit, good thing she stopped!!

Dina- thanks so much for the prayers! I truly can feel them!

Devon- so far Dad has been 10 days without one! PTL!
The dr. told him if he smoked with the patch on he could have a stroke or heart attack!

Sherry- Love what you wrote....I also love the song "In the Palm of Your Hand"..hubby used to play that on the guitar and I'd sing it.....what a great thing we have to look forward to!

City- I too like to listen to Joel! Thanks so much for believing with me!!

Darlene- I know you've had a rough way to go and I truly hate that you've had so much to deal with in your lifetime. I have 6 siblings and all but one of them smoke! I sooo hope Dad can be a learning experience for them. They know I HATE it, but it has to be their choice to do what they know they need to do.

My prayers are with you and your family! I wouldn't wish the pain of losing parents on anyone. I went through it way too young and with my mom it was so sudden that there was no time for goodbyes(car accident). My dad died 14mo later of Congestive Heart Failure and while we knew that was coming, it still wasn't easy to deal with at 22 having just lost mom the year before. It kills me because all of my brothers and my sister smoke and 3 out of 4 of my sisters kids smoke(Pam is only 14 and she better not start!) and I am constantly telling them to stop but they don't listen. They are "young" now and they have no concept of what it is like to be so sick that you can't move.
