BEAT THE ODDS!

Posted at 01:53 PM on June 16, 2009

Did you know that most diets are destined for failure!? The majority of people who try to lose weight...fail! It doesn't HAVE to be that way though...there ARE people that are successful...not PERFECT...but SUCCESSFUL!!!

The first thing you need to do is to realize that there isn't a magic plan out there or perfect plan that will solve all your weight issues!

There is NO quick fix...and you shouldn't do anything to lose weight that you aren't willing to do for life.  Are you going to live without carbs forever? I think not! Are you going to workout 2 or 3 hours a day for life...NOT ME!

Overthinking!

It takes so much less energy to just do it the right way.....the much less time consuming way....the much less stressful way...the much less painful way. Forget the you got to stop eating at certain times of day to lose weight , you can never eat ice cream, you must banish carbs, stop having any fat, just silly things like that that make you crazy and make you OVERTHINK this whole weight loss thing.

Think about what you've done in the past to lose weight.....what worked and what didn't? Which things can you see yourself sticking with for the long haul? If setting your alarm at o'dark thirty to workout didn't last then DON'T try it again! Instead work out in the evening!

Are you thinking big picture or small increments? Are you thinking I"ve got 100 pounds to lose or I can lose 5 pounds 20 times!

Deprivation!!

As soon as I tell myself no sugar....I CRAVE it! It's crazy! Think of things you can live with....like instead of 2 tsp of sugar in your coffee...try 1 instead.....use less mayo on your sandwich or switch it to lowfat...instead of drinking a glass of orange juice..switch to the actual orange. Try switching for full fat things you love to reduced fat items...look for lower calorie alternatives!

Stop the guilt cycles!

Most dieters avoid exercise.....don't let that be you! Most stop because they hate what they are doing and when they miss a day they feel guilty and feel like they have been bad...come on, folks, you know better than that. Exercise is especially crucial for KEEPING weight off..which is what we TRULY want! Don't give yourself the choice of not working out..make it a priority!

Skeptical?

Take  new steps to break those old patterns you have...believe you CAN do it and quit making excuses as to why you can't. Even those that have been life long yo yo dieters CAN change! If you think you can't do it...you're probably right...think you can? I KNOW you're right!!

I truly appreciate this blog. It really makes you think about "what you're doing". It makes you take a look at yourself and open your eyes to whether or not you're ready to make a change. I believe and KNOW that I am! Greatly appreciate you for writing this. Hopefully, everyone is open and receptive to learn new things everyday even if it is about yourself. Kudos for this article!!

You're welcome! Balance can be so hard to find, however your health is such a big part of your life and it's important to take care of ourselves..it's not going to get easier as we get older so we need to take charge now before we have lots of problems to "undo" later. Quitting is never an option and if you give up you'll NEVER get to where you want to be. You keep going even if you have to do it kicking and screaming...motivation is over rated...dedication is the key. For what it's worth my click at times is at a slight hum LOL..but I keep plugging along!

Thanks, Carla! I know you're right. I will have that talk with myself and see. I guess I keep waiting for the proverbial "click" to happen like it did after I had my first baby, but it just hasn't happened yet. I keep thinking it has, but then I lose steam. I know a big part of it is poor planning. My life just seems out of control right now and I've got to get things back on track. Of course it's more than just one area of my life that is chaotic. But when one thing is off, the rest is usually off too. I keep feeling like giving up, but then something keeps spurring me on to try again. I guess that is somehting I can be thankful for! Thanks again!

isign- it took me YEARS to get my head on "straight"! It does start in the mind...YOU have to believe you can do it and realize that's it's not something you start and stop...you keep pushing through and NEVER quitting. You have to REALLY want it..it's totally worth all the hard work and most of all determination. Life is all about choices....choose health! I make mistakes DAILY....however the good I do outweighs the bad. Have a good talk with yourself and ask yourself what you really want and if you're ready and willing to do what it takes..it's NOT easy or we'd all be doing it..ya know? However, don't think you're one that just CAN'T do it! Cuz' you can!

Oh, Carla...I'm really trying to have the right mind set with this whole losing weight thing, but I'm getting SO discouraged! The eating part of this just does NOT seem to be clicking. I can't seem to take even one step in teh right direction. Just keep stuffing my face with unhealthy food! I know a huge part of this is believing I CAN change and not beating myself up for mistakes I make each day. I'm just stuck right now! I guess maybe I'm just not ready. If I were, I'd be doing better. Ugh...sorry to be a downer. Thanks for all your encouragement. I'm sure someday it will sink in! smile
